Tumaco

They understood the enigmas of life.

The Tumaco culture developed in the southern part of the region, at the Ecuatorean border, which it reaches along the Pacific Ocean, where they must have arrived as Mesoamerican colonists.

They were prodigious potters and great portrait artists, registering in this manner all the processes of life. Their ceramics even reached the concept of sculpture.

They were farmers, jaguar-worshippers and partakers of phallic rites, as well as wise men who understood the enigmas of life.

Nariņo

Rich in gold and sophisticated in its artistic expression

This culture was made up of various peoples who lived in the Andean massif of Colombia, at the border with Ecuador, in the midst of a superb panorama of black land and green vegetation.

The Nariņo were farmers, weavers, excellent potters and elegant, capricious goldsmiths.

This culture, rich in gold and sophisticated in its artistic expression, was influenced by the cultures which made up the empires to the south. In Nariņo art, monkeys are frequently represented and the magic circle predominates in the design of finely painted plates.
