This name is given to a large, highly developed
nation which inhabited the Sierra Nevada mountain range, in Santa Marta,
which faces the Caribbean.
The Tairona nations included architects, engineers,
city-builders, goldsmiths, potters, farmers and notable weavers. They
were philosophers who created their wide-reaching cosmogony and
religion, some principles of which still exist among the last, harassed
inhabitants of the snowy peaks of the Sierra.
They were men of proud beauty, in full communication
with nature, and were envied for all their attributes by the invaders.
